What Is the FDNY S-94 Certificate of Fitness?

The S-94 is the FDNY Certificate of Fitness for handling and dispensing flammable or combustible liquids in portable containers. It covers people who dispense motor fuels like gasoline and diesel into approved portable containers, or into vehicles at service stations, anywhere in New York City.

Unlike some FDNY certificates, the S-94 is citywide. You can use it at any location in NYC, but only you can use it.

How to Prepare

Renewal Tips

FDNY sends renewal notices 90 days before expiry. Renew within a year of expiry to avoid reapplying; renewals between 90 days and one year late carry a $25 penalty plus the renewal fee.
